In July 2015,i heard news of the forthcoming Northern Music Awards Festival organized by Northern Visions Entertainment, exciting is an understatement i was overwhelmed by the idea that northern music was going to have
its own awards scheme. I was glad the northern musicians were going to be appreciated for their hard work and what could be more fulfilling than been celebrated by your own people. I was happy for northern music but didn’t pick up a nomination form nor even conceive the idea of being part of it because I considered myself an underground artist and of course still do. Later that year I was nominated for the Ghana underground music awards (GUAMAwards15) in the best rapper category.
Was I the only artist from northern Ghana to be nominated for the said award? YES. I am not the kind of guy that would usually beat his chest but if you were born, raised and based in Salaga you can’t help but be proud of this feat am talking about a place where no talent ever blows because it doesn’t get watered nor does it get sunlight. I didn’t win best rapper at GUMAwards15 but the experience was worth it new friends, more links and new ideas at the end of it a award scheme for underground acts in its first year seems to be more professional than an awards scheme for mainstream acts in its second year big ups to latent hub.
In march 2016, my road manager picked up a NMA16 Nomination form on my behalf, among the details to be entered was artist and manager contact information which we didn’t forget to enter. In April nominees were announced via radio and subsequently on social media ,you would expect that northern visions entertainment would notify artist who have been nominated for NMA16 and so did i but somehow i still haven’t been notified that I was nominated in the best rapper category and that is very professional isn’t it ? I don’t want to believe NVE didn’t notify nominees for NMA16 about their nominations, if they did then why was I sidelined. Some sort of discrimination?
Reduced to a fan who took notice of my nomination on their facebook page a member of my team contacted their face book page about a month ago to complain but there was no reply neither did act like they saw the other messages he sent, you don’t need to be an I.T expect to know whether your facebook message has been read or not so it was clear that NMA wasn’t just unprofessional but disrespectful as well, they didn’t notify me about my nomination because they didn’t know they had to neither was it due to forgetfulness but because they thought I was some junky who didn’t know left from right.NMA tried deliberately to bruise my ego. Come on. You can’t kill my vibe. I have a feeling I am not the only one you are treating this way, you probably treated some artists like some trash and they kept mute. Just imagine stopping the new Kanye west from his dream of winning 21 gramies? you got north at heart right ? It’s time to change things, time to change our ways, do things right, if it must be done then it must be done right. Its time to stop the discrimination treats everyone equally whether you know them or not, whether you like them or not. We are going
