The Waterhouse area in Kingston, Jamaica has been a melting pot of musical culture over the years. Many of Jamaica’s famous entertainers have originated from that area. The famous Jammy’s recording studio is nestled in the area and has been the ‘college’ for many aspiring musicians.
Rising dancehall artiste Kirky D is among those who have benefited from being a resident of Waterhouse. Describing himself as a humble multi-talented person from humble beginnings, Kirky aims to bring clean uplifting music with the aim to inject positivity at all times.
Kirky D (real name Kirkland Orlando Falconer) currently resides in Hartford, Connecticut. Prior to moving to the United States, he began his musical journey in the Jamaican music circles in the late 1990’s after graduating from the Excelsior High school in Kingston.
‘Growing up in Waterhouse near to the King Jammy’s studio and being exposed to most of the artistes who helped to pave the way for us, I was able to get a semblance of the business over a period of time. My mother also sang and along with being around singer Lukie D and his family who had an investment in music in some way, I was able to learn a lot about the industry’, Kirky D explained.
Kirky D honed his craft performing at stage shows in and around his community. This helped him to gauge his potential by just observing the reactions from the audience.
‘I got my experience to perform and grow musically. My audience was the gauge for my growth and I believe that nothing happens before its time. And for me that time is here and now’, he said.
Kirky D made his recording debut with the song Wine Baby Wine which was produced by Richard ‘Richie Indian’ Ramsay and Andrew Powell. He has since recorded for Youngstar Records, Real Apache Entertainment and Kirk Junior Records among others.
Musically, Kirky D can be best described as talented, lyrically inclined, hardworking and one that possesses creativity.
‘I am highly motivated and I strive in a fluctuating environment where I can transform unexpected obstacles into stepping stones for achievement. I always have a unique perspective when approaching my craft musically and melodically. I am proud of my strong work ethic, which enables me to grow lyrically’, he added.
Some of his more familiar work include God ah God, Wine Baby Wine and his most recent single Passion for Fashion.
His music video releases include Pop it Off, Bad Mind Can’t Stop Mi, Goodas, and Hotty Hotty.
